Supply Drive for Back 2 School

Through September 2, the Cayce Dept of Public Safety will be collecting items for their annual "Back to School Supply Drive" to benefit City of Cayce students. All supplies should be be left in their original packaging due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All donations can be dropped off at the Front Door of the Public Safety Complex near the Flag Poles. All items will be cleaned and sanitized before they are distributed to students.

Back to School Giveaway

Brookland United Methodist Church is hosting a Back-2-School Giveaway on August 22, 2020, from 2 pm until 6 pm! It is in partnership with 12 Springs Community Church, West Columbia Police Department, and West Columbia Fire Department!

Donations of NEW School Supplies are needed in the form of Book-bags, Notebook Paper, Pencils, Crayons, Gluesticks, Composition Notebooks, and Kleenex Tissues. Also, monetary donations will be accepted to purchase the supplies.

Webinar: Recycling Options for Businesses in the Midlands

All businesses in the Midlands are invited to learn more about affordable recycling options during a free webinar, Thursday, August 27th from 2 to 3:30 p.m. The panel of speakers will present information on where and how to recycle a variety of materials and will demonstrate a new online tool that can be used to search for recycling companies in South Carolina. The Midlands Green Business program is a partnership between the City of Columbia, Lexington County, Richland County and Keep the Midlands Beautiful.  This program is designed to recognize businesses who adopt sustainable and eco-friendly business practices, thus keeping our community cleaner, greener and making it a more beautiful place to live.

Virtual Freshwater Family Fishing Clinic

The West Columbia Riverwalk is a great place to fish, but your family may need to brush up on their skills first! The South Carolina Department of Natural Resource's Family Fishing Clinic is a free introductory class to fishing and will teach skills on how to tie fishing knots, how to rig a rod and reel, and casting. All ages are welcome!

Free Recycle Drop-off / Lexington County

Is your house cluttered with paper or items that need to be recycled? For Lexington County residents, you may bring paper to be shredded (up to 5 boxes), electronics (up to 8 items), tires (up to 8) and selected other items to be recycled. Please see link for allowable items and instructions.  Please do not bring business-generated items. Household hazardous waste (e.g. paint, fire extinguishers, pesticides, bug spray) is now being collected a few times a month at select Collection and Recycling Centers.  To receive this schedule, contact Traude Sander. To be notified by email of event details prior to each event, or if you have questions, contact Traude Sander, Lexington County Recycling Coordinator, at tsander@lex-co.com or (803) 785-3340.
